ST. ALPHONSUS H.P.S. according to the aim and motto always strives to educate mainly the poor and the neglected of the surrounding area and helps themselves to the better members of society

Rev. Fr Joseph Morgan, the parish priest of Holy Ghost church at the time after visiting his vast parish consisting of 75% of Tamil speaking people started a Tamil medium school. He approached mother Anne, a French sister who was the provincial at St. Joseph of Tarbes Sisters at Cleveland town. She generously came forward to help and sent two sisters Sr. Maria Alphonse and Sr. Paula to begin the school.

St. Alphonsus School, with the name of the founder of the Redemptorists started exactly on 17th January 1955, with 90 childrens. Rev. Fr. Mathew Hickey C ss R, who was Vice Provincial and Rector of Mt. St. Alphonsus with great generosity, gave all the rooms of the Redemptorist seminary building on the Ground Floor facing the church for the poor school.

The school was recognized by the education department and a government grant was sanctioned in 1956. In 1962-1963 St. Alphonsus School was a higher Primary School with standard I to VII

A new society called Sada Sahaya Sangham was registered in 1964 which looked after all the activities of St. Alphonsus School.

Fr. Mathew Hickey has acquired some land measuring about 3 acres on Davis Road for the Charitable purpose. After losing some part of the land to the government and encroachers. The foundation stone of the school was blessed by archbishop Lourduswamy on 19th March 1970. The feast of St. Joseph the building consisted of 12 class rooms and two office rooms, the ground floor and first floor was blessed and opened by most Rev. Fr. Amarel.

The founder general of the Redemptorists on 02nd February 1972. The Second Floor of the main building of the school and the construction of the Ground Floor hall with tables and benches for the children to take their meal was built by Rev. Fr. Cruice Sanjini. It was later when Fr. Osmond D’ Souza was parish priest that another hall was constructed on the First Floor

The high school was started in 1976 with the permission of the education department and government grant was sanctioned in 1981. The First Headmistress of St. Alphonsus High School was Rev. Sr. Mary Basil. The two storied building on the west was supervised by Fr. Santiago while the building on the east with its First two stories was supervised by Sr. Julianna with Fr. Louis Selvadoray was the parish priest.

The foundation stone of the convent building (Teacher’s Residence) was blessed by Fr. Frank Da Costa on 14th September 1981. The school encourages the students to take part in all school and inter school literary competition like drawing and painting, essay and debate in English, Tamil, kannada and Hindi own students have bagged the rolling shield’s continuously for 3 years.

In 1988 January our students also take part in science quiz programme conducted by Visveshwaraiah Industrial and Technological museum. In the year 1987-1988 marks the bicentennial death anniversary of St. Alphonsus the Patron of our school.

The computer centre on the second floor was blessed and opened by the provincial of Redemptorists Fr. Xavier Sanjivi C ss R on 1st August 2001, on 17th January 2005. St. Alphonses School celebrated its Golden Jubilee in the footsteps of Jesus our Master. So that we the staff may be enlightened and encouraged by him with great dedication and sacrifice to impart sound and all round education to the poor children

We raise our hearts and minds to God in thanks giving and gratitude for all his blessing and for having walked with us during the past 60 years. Profound thanks to the society of the dream has fulfilled on 17th June 2019, at 4:00 PM with a grand function, for this programme B E O Madam Prabha Alexander and D D P I Jayaranga our corporate Palaniyammal were invited

Finally our father John Mathew and sister Arul Amudha and sister Josephine successfully achieved by opening English Primary in St. Alphonsus School and also our manager started skill development for our children and also 8th July 2019 he started a Refreshment Canteen for the children and for the staff.

Finally we shall always remember with gratitude all the Priests, Sisters and lay teachers both men and women, and non teaching staff, who worked hard with great dedication and sacrifice.
